Third graders salute veterans

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Local students showed their appreciation for our country's Armed Forces today.

The third graders of Shelledy Elementary held a patriotic presentation at the Civic Center in Fruita and were joined by the Combined Honor Guard of the Grand Valley.

"If kids don't know what Veterans Day is, they can't appreciate what our military has done for this country," said Shelledy music teacher Cathey Barger.

The students sang patriot songs and spoke out to the crowd about what Veterans Day means to each of them.

"It just warms my heart to see them out there and gives me hope that there will be future generations to follow myself and the rest of the guys here and fill the ranks," said Assistant Commander of the Honor Guard Gary Parrott.

The Honor Guard concluded the presentation with a short flag folding ceremony and speech about what each of the 13 folds in the flag symbolizes.
