A new report says a program meant to nab illegal aliens with a criminal past is not working as well as it should.

According to a Government Accountability Report, the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE, are not making sure local and state law enforcement agencies go after serious criminals.

The report also said the agencies are not making sure police don't misuse their authority to enforce immigration law. Dozens of state and local agencies including the Colorado State Patrol have partnered with ICE to carry out immigration laws.

The report laid out recommendations for more oversight from ICE.
