GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Current and former Halliburton employees tell 11 News the company is making some big layoffs. They're estimating anywhere from 150 to 300 employees could lose their jobs today.

Halliburton Company officials have not made an official comment to 11 News about the layoffs. But when our crews were on scene this morning there were armed security guards. Security guards are talking to employees before they go in, many of them, wondering if they'll still have a job when they leave.

11 News has spoken with several employees about what's going on, they tell us they're estimating that anywhere from 150 to about 300 people could be laid off here today. A former employee says the industry is hurting, in a big way. Robert Harris, a former Halliburtion employee says, "They're probably gonna cut, downsize, I don't know. It doesn't' look real good. It looks like the 80s is coming again."

11 News will update this Web site with details as they become available in this developing story.

Halliburton are laying off again here in Houston, 500 staff went last week this includes staff at the Bellaire and CityWest offices, they also let people go in Europe..... mostly effecting higher pay grades including the most experienced staff. They are keeping this very low profile.

I love how people believe whatever they hear in the paper/news. This newspaper had no facts before they started the story....how do i know you ask? I STILL WORK THERE! find something better to do with your time than crtisize the best company I have evere worked for. SPEND LESS TIME WHINING MORE TIME LOOKING FOR A JOB!

Halliburton doesn't need to say why layoffs were necessary, just follow the news. If did you'd know that local and state democrats have done all they could to snuff out the strongest industry in the state for years now. There are many rigs stacked around the western slope waiting to go back to work once Ritter and his cronies stop trying to strong arm them with excessive fees and regulations. Unfortunately, Udall didn't have the integrity to admit his responsibility for these job losses, but tried to justify more stimulus money to help people who don't want to work in the first place. Why do we need good private sector jobs with a future and benefits like those at Halliburton when we can just get a good dead end job working for the state. Then we will be completely dependent on the government... just like Obama, Udall, Salazar and Ritter want it.

I love how only 2 or 3 months ago the people who run this town said, and I quote " the energy industry is only 10% of the workforce, the downturn in drilling won't hurt us" Well that may be true about the industry only being 10% of the jobs, but it's 90% of the county's income..
