11 News has learned the deadly crash at 23 and G roads last night is one of thirty accidents at that intersection in the last nine years and the third fatal crash.
Officials say a dump truck ran a stop sign and crashed into an SUV killing 49–year–old Quentin Spendrup.
The City of Grand Junction says the intersection is one of the most dangerous in the area and it's been planning to build a rounabout there since 2005.
Officials say the application for a federal grant has held up the plans.
They say people should be more careful but they're always looking for ways to make the roads safer.
"Anytime you get behind the wheel of a car there's personal responsibility but we're always extremely concerned about the safety of our residents. We look very hard to improve safety at intersections just like this one," Public Works Spokeswoman Kristin Winn told 11 News on Friday.
The city says construction is expected to start this time next year and should be finished by fall of 2010.
