Fruita Police are investigating an alleged stabbing that sent one teen to the hospital.

Just before 5:00pm Friday evening, Fruita Police received a report of a stabbing that took place on Mesa Street, just north of Otley Avenue. Police confirmed that one person had been transported from the scene to the hospital and that officers were out looking for a suspect.

Eyewitnesses tell 11 News, a group of teens was walking down Mesa Street, being followed and taunted by another group of teens. They say the two groups started arguing and during an altercation a 14-year-old boy was hit hard in the face with a broken glass bottle.

Eyewitnesses say the hit left a deep gash just below the boy's cheek and blood was gushing out onto the sidewalk.

They say after the boy was hit, the one group of teens took off, while the other group called police.
