People in a Fruita neighborhood describe hearing loud explosions as a shed burst into flames Sunday afternoon.
Officials with Lower Valley Fire Department say that a controlled burn hit a shed and sparked numerous 55 gallon drums of waste oil on fire.
Lower Valley Fire, the homeowners and neighbors all worked together to extinguish the blaze. The homeowners’ daughter says that while she’s glad the house didn’t catch on fire, many of her childhood memories went up in smoke with the shed. Debris from the fire even knocked out a power line.
Officials say no one was injured in the blaze, damage to the shed and its contents are estimated at one-hundred-and fifty-thousand dollars.
