An early morning fire rips through a townhome garage forcing evacuations and prompting an immediate investigation.
It happened just after 2 a.m. this morning at the Monument Ridge Townhomes in orchard mesa.
Grand Junction Fire was the first to report to the fire at 2680 B½ Road and reported heavy smoke and flames. Residents were quickly evacuated while crews worked to put out the fire.
Fire Department spokesman Mike Page says the fire started in a garage and aside from smoke damage, was contained to the garages. Damage is estimated at $125,000.
Fire investigators and Grand Junction Police are now talking to residents and any possible witnesses.
One witness told officials he saw someone run away from the area where the fire started and drive off.
Investigators are still gathering information.
One family is displaced this morning and is being helped by the Red Cross. A number of vehicles were parked inside the burned garage but it is unclear how bad the smoke damage is inside these townhomes.
