Morgan Hite, convicted of giving birth to a baby boy and then leaving the child in a closet to die, was sentenced to 20 years in prison this morning.
A judge has also ordered Hite to serve 5 years mandatory parole. She was given a credit for 317 days served.
A tearful Hite made a courtroom statement this morning, apologizing to her family and the community. She faced between 16 and 24 years for first degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
In February of last year, Hite secretly gave birth to the baby and hid it in a closet in her parent's north Grand Junction home.
Her parents found the infant’s body two months later.
