AHPS helps farmers, emergency managers, municipal water supply officials, recreationists and dam operators make important decisions. AHPS provides information that helps officials make life-saving decisions for evacuating people or moving property before a flood.
AHPS answers the following questions:
-How high will the river rise?
-When will the river reach its peak?
-Where will the flooding occur?
-How long with the flood last?
Additional information about AHPS is available on the National Weather Service’s Web site, www.weather.gov/ahps. To view the full week of topics covered in National Flood Awareness week, visit www.weather.gov/gjt.
