Local health officials say as more people fall victim to the tough economic times, the number of people without health insurance continues to grow. And they want to let those people know there are ways to get help.

March 23 - Mar 31, The Mesa County Health Department, Marillac Clinic, and Hilltop are teaming up for "Cover the Uninsured" weed.

Officials say the latest figures show 18 percent of adults in Mesa County do not have health insurance, and nearly half the children in Mesa County qualify for insurance programs like Medicaid and CHP+.

To help put a dent in uninsured rates, the team will be holding a series of information sessions and enrollment drives throughout the week.

"We need health insurance," said Pam Baker, with the Hilltop B4Babies & Beyond program. "We need that to stay healthier, we need that for our children to do better in school, they're doing a lot more sports. It's just important for people to know there is assistance for them out there."
