Delta fire officials say an out of control brush fire scorched 90 acres along Highway 50 Sunday.
They say just after 1:00pm, crews rushed to an area just south of the City of Delta on reports that a large fire was burning near the riverbank.
Officials believe it ignited after a resident threw out ashes that were still smoldering and grew as the strong winds powered it across the area.
They say five structures were threatened and four families had to be evacuated while crews battled the blaze. No homes were destroyed but an old outbuilding was badly burned.
No one was hurt.
