According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development homelessness is up nationwide.

Locally, officials with Homeward Bound homeless shelter say they’re seeing more people needing assistance.

Jordan McGinnis with Homeward Bound says many of the people it helps are "working homeless", those working 40-hours per week jobs but having a hard time affording a place to live.

Mcginnis says Homeward Bound is seeing the biggest increase from families and single parents.

Mcginnis says a lot of those families have been affected because of the heavy decline in the oil and gas industry.
