The BLM is considering charging rafters to float down the Colorado River between Loma and Westwater.
The agency says more people are using the McInnis Canyons National Conservation area so there's more potential for damage and more of a need for facilities.
The BLM says it's not sure how much it would charge but similar rafting areas are charging anywhere from $3 to $7.
The agency says it's still very early in the research process and it would hold public meetings long before it imposed a fee.
The earliest you could see a fee hike would be in 2011.
