The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act is sending just under $70,000 to five county's in Western Colorado. The Feds are increasing funding to the Older Americans Act which will send $59,000 our way as well.
Mesa County will see a percentage of those funds for a total of $41,000. All of that is allocated specifically for congregate and home delivery of food for senior.
That means Gray Gourmet will be able to provide 6,000 more meals for seniors next year. However, they still are in need of volunteers to deliver those meals. Currently Gray Gourmet has about 200 volunteers. They need about 10 more volunteers that can deliver to areas on the outskirts of town. Places like East Orchard Mesa and North Grand Junction past G Road.
