A 62-year-old man's quick thinking may have saved his neighbor's house from going up in flames.

Just before 4pm on Wednesday, Grand Junction Firefighters responded to 2230 Kingston Road on the Redlands for a report of a deck fire.

They say they found the flames mostly out and Don Matti holding a hose.

Matti says he didn't think twice or even put his shoes on before he ran to help his neighbors.

"I just heard some cracking and looked over and the deck and the house were on fire so I hooked up my hose and did the best I could until the fire department got here. That's just what good neighbors do."

Firefighters say one person was home at the time but no one was injured.

They estimate the damage at $5,000.

The cause is still under investigation.
