Americans still have one of the lowest postage rates in the world despite a coming rate increase.
Starting next month, the price of a stamp is going up.
The US Postal Service says May 9 the cost to mail a letter first class will be $.44, two cents higher than right now.
International postage rates are also going up.
The US Postal Service says the increase is badly needed to cover operating expenses.
Mail volume is down 12 percent on a national level and the USPS is facing a $6 billion deficit this year.
