It was a shootout in Gateway today.

About a hundred of the best snipers entering an explosive contest to see who's the best in the West with a rifle in the annual Spring Dynamite Shoot.

Apparently when you mix guns and dynamite, you do not get chaos, rather, sheer joy.

Since the late 1940's, some of the finest sharpshooters in the West headed to Gateway to see who has the best long range aim.
the target... a soda can stuffed with T.N.T.

There's 200 targets that range from 100 yards to 1000 yards and sportsmen buy tickets for a round of shots: some of the money goes to Gateway's Volunteer Fire Department, and some goes to whoever hits a target.

Contestants are from all over from Colorado Springs to Fort Worth, Texas, ranging from teens to seasoned veterans.
