The City of Grand Junction has started demolition work to make way for a new walkway downtown.
The work started this morning in between 4th and 5th Streets just north of Main Street Tuesday morning.
A backhoe operator started tearing down the former International Coin Company building.
Once the building is out of the way the city is going to pave the walkway and build a breezeway with lights going from the Rood Parking Garage straight to Main Street.
The downtown partnership is footing the bill for the $100,000 project.
Crews expect to have the work finished before the first Farmer's Market in June.
