Senator Michael Bennet stopped in Grand Junction on Friday to unveil his plans for healthcare reform legislation.
He held a roundtable discussion with local leaders at Rocky Mountain Health Plans on Crossroads Boulevard.
Senator Bennet says Mesa County has one of the lowest readmission rates in area hospitals and he wants to take our model to the rest of the country.
He says hospital readmissions cost taxpayers $17 billion every year.
Bennet says his plan will use existing resources to offer counseling for patients in transition from the hospital.
He introduced the Medicare tTansitions Act of 2009 earlier this week in Washington.
