The county has a new way of notifying you in case of an emergency. But it only works if you sign up for it.
The Grand Junction Regional Communication System will now be able to send emergency alerts through email, text message and cell phone.
Alerts can be as serious as wild fire warnings or evacuation notices. They can also be information focused.
Sheriff Stan Hilkey says, "It might be as simple as the fifth street bridge is closed it would be a good thing for you to avoid right now."
Anyone can sign up numerous times to get alerts from different locations around the valley.
