State Senator Josh Penry says he is still considering a run for governor despite another Republican throwing his name in the hat yesterday.

Penry says he is glad to see his friend and fellow Western SlopeRepublican Scott McInnis come back onto the political scene, but that it has no bearing on his final decision.

He says the Republican Party needs a new direction if it is going to be successful in the 2010 race, and believes a Republican primary for governor will help do that.

"It is a little bit of an awkward situation because Scott and I have a history together, but a little competition, a healthy debate might actually be a good thing for the Republican Party," he said.

Penry says he has no interest in running on the GOP ticket as Lieutenant Governor.

He's says he’s not afraid of competition should he make a run.

He tells 11News he still needs to talk things over with his family, but will make his final decision sometime this summer.
