With many people packing up the tents and sleeping bags to enjoy Colorado's great camping locations this holiday weekend the Colorado Department of Agriculture has a tip: "Burn it where you buy it.”
Officials say that transporting firewood across the state can contribute to tree mortality because insects and diseases can be transported with the wood.
Campers are urged to buy their firewood at their destination to help prevent non-native pests from devastating Colorado's forests.
