Two failed insulators left nearly 5,000 Redlands-area homes and businesses without power this afternoon.

Officials say the failed insulators caught the poles on fire in the Ridges around 2:15 p.m. Xcel Engergy spokesman Fred Eggleston says about three quarters of the customers had power restored by 2:30 p.m. and the rest should have power before 4 p.m.

The poles and insulators are being replaced Eggleston says.
