The Garfield County Sheriff's Office and Colorado Bureau of Investigation continue their investigation into a dead body that was found just outside of Glenwood Springs.
Just before 11:00am Friday, a teenager working in an apple orchard near Canyon Creek called 911, and told dispatchers he had come across what he thought was a dead body.
Garfield County Sheriff's deputies rushed to the scene and began their investigation. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and others were called out to assist.
"Because of the scope of the crime scene we asked the Garfield County Search and Rescue to come and help," said Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario.
The area was completely shut down to traffic and residents while authorities combed the area for evidence.
Officials on scene confirmed that a dead body was in fact found, but would not comment on its age, gender, or ethnicity.
"We're pretty confident that foul play was involved," said Vallario. "We're treating it as a homicide and we're going to take all the steps necessary to solve this crime."
Officials say the body is being transported to Grand Junction, where the coroner will perform an autopsy.
They say due to the location of the crime scene and its proximity to Interstate 70, it's possible that it could have been a drop site.
