From the creator of the stuffed crust pizza and the always popular McGriddle comes the Smash Burger. And come Monday you'll be able to try the latest creation in a long line of flavor icons.
Smash Burger, just the name gets people's attention.
Todd Colosimo, Smash Burgers Director of Operations says, "i know everybody is thinking, 'oh great just another burger joint,' but it's a different flavor it's a different experience."
Colosimo says, "the name comes from how we cook our burgers."
The burgers start out looking more like meat balls. Colosimo says, "we use 100 percent certified angus beef."
Then they are slapped on a 400 degree stove top and smashed with a special paddle to sear the meat.
Colosimo says, "which locks in the juices and adds flavor to our burgers that you won't get anywhere else."
Saturday, Smash Burger hosted a pre-opening VIP Tasting Party.
Smash Burger officially opens this Monday but expect to see three more locations in a year.
The Smash Burger concept started in Colorado. This location in Grand Junction, just west of 1st Street on Grand Ave., is the first franchised store.
The most expensive burger is $7.
Colosimo, says, "we would stack our burgers up against your full service restaurants any day of the week."
Other future Smash Burger locations include one near the Mesa Mall, one on 12th street, and one in Clifton.
