Elected county officials are pushing for longer term limits.
Law enforcement officials, including Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey, District Attorney Pete Hautzinger, and Coroner Dean Havlick would be affected by a term change.
They are each pushing to ask voters in the fall to increase term limits from two terms to three.
Each term is for four years.
Sheriff Stan Hilkey is on his last term, and says by extending the term limits it does not guarantee a third term, but allows officials to run for a third term and leave it up to the voters.
