A 36-year-old man is behind bars, accused of trying to molest an 11–year–old girl.

Investigators with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office arrested David States on charges of attempting to commit sex assault on a child.

According to an arrest affidavit he unzipped the child's pants while she was sleeping.

Investigators say States denied doing it at first but after failing a lie detector test he admitted it.

He is held on a $20,000 bond.

He is also being held on a $10,000 bond for a traffic offense.
