A group of families is trying to make sure troops overseas can feel a little bit of home on Independence Day.
Local military families are boxing up July 4th Care Packages for troops overseas.
They spent the day on Saturday outside of the Michael’s store in Grand Junction collecting items for packages.
They're asking for items like snacks and small toiletries, and especially small fans, since it's so hot in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Volunteers say even small packages can mean a big smile on a soldier's face.
If you'd like to help out or make a donation, it’s not too late. You can drop off items in a drop box inside the Honey Baked Ham store off of Highway 6 & 50 in Grand Junction.
