Country Jam crane goes boom!

A Country Jam landmark has fallen down and crews are working to get Old Glory flying again.

Just before 3 p.m. the crane brought into the Country Jam grounds to proudly display a massive American Flag fell over. A crane is brought in each year, this year the crane is from the Dawn Crane company.

Country Jam officials say because the grass is so saturated from recent rains the crane got mis-weighted as the ground gave out. As the operator was putting the boom up, the crane fell over. The operator was inside at the time but was not injured, though he is shaken up. A worker with the crane company says it's a 197' crane that weighs 240 tons.

11News has a crew on scene who says two people inside a nearby RV at the time were also uninjured when the accident occurred. A fence was also knocked over.

Officials say they'll have to cut the boom apart and take it out in pieces. Crews will be working hard to get it back in place before the event kicks off on Thursday.

You didn't mention that if the operator had not jumped back into the crane as it was fall over and moved the boom the people in thr RV would have been killed or injured.
