Soaring high above Glenwood Springs is usually reserved for the birds, but one paragliding company is changing that.
If you look toward Red Mountain in Glenwood Springs, chances are you will see more in the sky than just the birds. That's because Adventure Paragliding is taking people on a ride high above the canyon.
Pine Pienaar has been paragliding for nearly 25 years and couldn't keep it to himself, “I enjoyed the experience so much that I wanted to share it with people.”
He started adventure paragliding six years ago. A company that takes people who have never been paragliding before up in the sky, but they're not alone. His pilots do all the work for you on tandem flights.
There are a few common misconceptions about paragliding that are cleared up before taking off. The first one is that when you paraglide you have to jump off a cliff.
The second "myth" is that paragliding is like parachuting, where the chute opens after taking off.
The truth is you use a “glider” that opens as you take off and actually lifts you up off the mountain.
The flight lasts between fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the weather and at the highest point paragliders are nearly 18 hundred feet in the air.
A tandem flight cost one hundred and thirty nine dollars. If you would like more information on Adventure Paragliding you can contact them 970-274-1619 or check out their website at http://adventureparagliding.com.
