While fireworks can be awe-inspiring for people, they can be terrifying for pets.

Mesa County Animal Services says they pick up dozens of dogs who run away from home or are hit by cars because of firework noise.

Officials say leave your pets at home when attending fireworks displays.

If possible keep them indoors and in a quiet place and make sure they are wearing identification tags.

The animal shelter will be open all weekend.
