Through the month of July, 11News reporters will show you what it means when we say 11Cares. They'll be bringing you inspirational stories that have special meaning to them while they highlight the great people who live here and the wonderful things going on in our community.

11 News Anchor Natalie Pallone brings you a special report highlighting a beneficial relationship between kids and seniors, the St. Mary's Hospital Foster Grandparent Program.

As she discovers, it's a win-win for not only those involved, but for the community as well. "I wanted to highlight this program and let more people know about it because it makes such a difference in so many people's lives," Natalie says. "Not only do the volunteers and kids in the program get something out of it, but so do the parents and people like you and me."

Natalie discovers the program pays volunteers a stipend, pays mileage and provides seniors with a yearly wellness physical. In return, the seniors provide kids with a little extra help in and out of the classroom.

This 11 Cares for Kids: Foster Grandparents Program Special Report airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. Be sure to check out the online edition of the story for more information on how you can get involved in this worthy program.
