Throughout the month of July, 11 News reporters will show you what it means when we say 11 Cares. They'll be bringing you inspirational stories that have special meaning to them while they highlight the great people who live here and the wonderful things happening in our community.
11 News Sports Reporter Jer Bates introduces you to a 13–year–old track & field phenom who has already set some very lofty goals for his future. But are parents pressuring kids to do too much, too soon? Jer brings you a special report on a father and son team that has found a formula for success when it comes to student athletes.
It's a partnership Jer wants others to know about and take an example from. "Robert Harrison is an outstanding athlete with unlimited potential," he says. "These days too many parents push their talented young kids so hard that the sport is no longer any fun for the athletes. But Robert's dad isn't pressuring him. Instead he is supporting Robert – and there is a big difference."
This 11 Cares for Athletes Special Report airs Thursday, July 9 at 10 p.m. Keep checking www.nbc11news.com to find out when we will broadcast each of our 11 Cares features.
