Grand Junction police are warning against a bait-and-switch scam that has already taken five victims.
Investigators say the scammer calls using a communications device for the deaf and offers to buy items from classified ads.
The scammer sends a money order for more than the price, asking for the change back in cash.
But when the victim deposits the money order, it's no good.
Police say if someone tries to overpay asking for change it's probably a scheme.
If you do take a money order make sure it clears before handing over any cash.
