Businesses everywhere are jumping on the social media bandwagon.
Building Facebook pages, Twitter profiles and setting up linked in accounts.
But many find it an overwhelming sea of information and don't know where to start.
In this 11 Cares for Business Special Report Leigh Ashman introduces you to a woman whose book to help make sense of it all.
Jennifer Kettlewell: mother of four, getting her masters, runs a business.
And she wrote a book on navigating the sea of social networking."
"Primarily, it's about getting businesses hooked into technology.
Getting them hooked into the blogging, the social media, some of the things that a lot of businesses find scary,” she says.
She's the leader of a group called moxie mafia.
Women who gather to help each other put social networking to work for their small businesses.
Andrea Haitz, a member of the Moxie Mafia, says, "Jen has showed me how to take the social media and use it in a small amount of time but make it work the best."
Jen also teaches seminars.
They start small with setting up profiles, finding the right platform, getting comfortable & answering questions.
Edith Johnston, who attended the Moxie Mafia seminar says, "Exploring it has been a challenge.
Making sure I knew the language and then learning exactly how to set it up properly.
Jennifer's new book talks about why inexpensive social networking is now so important, how it can help any business and dispels a few myths.
Jennifer says, “There's a lot of tools out there that can help you take that overwhelm out of social media and actually make it approachable."
Her clients say it doesn't matter what business they're in, a few minutes online each day doing social networking has helped them grow.
Edith says, "Social networking in the old fashioned way took hours and Jennifer is saying we can do it in 15 minutes a day."
Jen understands juggling a home life and work, the main reason she says most of her clients are women.
But she'll help anyone figure it out.
“For those that don't understand it, it's really about taking your neighborhood and putting it online,” Jennifer says.
“That's all it is. The businesses just need to take the first step. There are people here that will help them.”
Social media gives customers 24/7 access to your biz.
Jen says that's important, but it's more important to have fun with your social media.
"Social media is about having fun. And if you don't have fun, it comes through and the customers see it,” Jen says.
The fix? Find the right site for you.
There are hundreds, some are industry–specific.
Jen says the most important thing is to get out there "I show them that if they're connecting with the right people they're gonna get a whole different message and they're gonna understand that it's ok to talk business,” Jen says.
