As the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the 7th Judicial Critical Incident Team continue to investigate a fatal officer involved shooting in Montrose, neighbors in the area of where it happened weigh in on the devastating situation.

“I heard what sounded like pistol shots in my opinion, like pop, pop, pop,” says neighbor Jim Howell.

What he heard Saturday night was a shootout between Montrose Police Officers and his neighbor. When the shots ended one Montrose Police Officer was dead, two others injured and Howell's neighbor also dead.

Montrose Police had been called out to the home for a domestic dispute. Neighbors say it was something that wasn't uncommon at the home, and Howell says the suspect's wife even confided in him and his wife, “Well I never knew him at all I met her and she'd come over in the past, last year, complaining to my wife about domestic problems and beat her up.”

Howell says the shooting is unfortunate especially because it happened so close to home and left an officer dead. We spoke to other neighbors in the area and all of them said the same as Howell, they can’t believe this happened in their neighborhood.
