Grand Junction has lost a hot match over the Best Tennis Town in America title, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.

Today, the United States Tennis Association announced the top three tennis towns and Grand Junction wasn’t on the list.
Independence, KS, Midland, MI, and Ojai, CA made the cut instead.

Thanks to the efforts of local players, Grand Junction placed in the top ten and takes home an honorable mention prize package of tennis equipment worth $2,000.

The ultimate winner of the Best Tennis Town award will be announced during the 2009 U.S. Open in late August. This is the USTA's first nationwide search to identify the local area that best shows the passion, excitement and impact tennis has on a local level.

"The excitement this award generated in the last ten days was phenomenal, and Grand Junction should be proud of our fabulous facilities and dedicated followers," says Rob Schoeber, Parks & Recreation director for the City of Grand Junction.
