A man is behind bars at the Mesa County Jail, arrested on charges of murder and assault.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office inmate inquiry system, 24-year-old Michael James Simpson was also booked into jail on murder and three counts of assault.

According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Simpson has a criminal history that goes back to August of 2003. He has been arrested twice for providing alcohol to minors. In January of 2006, Palisade Police took him into custody for resisting arrest, possession of narcotics, and multiple traffic violations.

Records show his most recent arrest came in February of 2008, when he was booked on multiple larceny and trespassing charges.

There's been no word on whether Simpson is connected to the overnight shooting of four people in Clifton that left one dead. However, Sheriff's Department officials have confirmed they are not looking for any other suspects in that case and that they are currently holding two people.

We will bring you the latest information on this developing story as it becomes available.

I think the media really shouldnt rely on offset information from the police dept. They should wait until all the facts are gathered, instead of racing for the story.

You should really find out the true facts before posting information on this Simpson case. Have you not thought of his family and what is really going on? It's really sad that you have to make this kid out to be worse then he really is. Cops do not always tell the truth you know!!!!!
