A local grocery store is honoring the memory of a former checker by collecting money for a cause dear to his heart.

Ken, a checker at Safeway on Horizon Drive, passed away suddenly this week.

Instead of flowers, his family is asking that donations be made to the Colorado Saint Bernard Rescue.

Friends say Ken had three of his own, but also fostered up to thirteen Saint Bernard’s at his home, all at the same time!

Brent Wagner with the Colorado Saint Bernard Rescue says in Ken's case, the dogs were truly man's best friend, "Ken’s got a fantastic human family over here, but his Saint Bernard’s, they were his kids, they were so close to him and he was an amazing dog owner, just phenomenal, there's nothing he wouldn't do for them."

You can help by stopping by the Safeway on Horizon Drive and making a donation, or, you can volunteer to foster a dog, or even adopt one!

The good news?: all three of Ken's dogs have found loving homes.
