An 18th birthday usually comes with a celebration to remember. Well one local girl is giving up the birthday cake to make her special day, special for others.

Kalinda Theobold will turn 18 this month, but instead of having a party she is organizing a canned food drive. Theobold came up with the idea after doing some missionary work in Las Angeles. She says its important for her it make a difference and even convinced her friends to help her out. "I don't really need anything and I was just thinking about other people that do need stuff and I thought I could collect canned goods and do something for them and give them something," says Theobold.

The Cans for the Community food drive takes place this Friday at the North Avenue Wal–mart from 11 am to 7 pm.
