A renter who police say tried to set his own home on fire is facing criminal charges.
Jeremy Awbery was booked into the Mesa County jail on charges of first degree arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
When officers arrived at his home on Hall Avenue Thursday night a witness told them Awbery tried to light the outside of the home on fire.
Police say he was found locked in the house trying to light the inside on fire.
The Grand Junction Fire Department estimates the damage to be more than $150,000.
