An overnight prank could have turned deadly in Grand Junction.

Witnesses say two kids tossed a cantaloupe off the 25 Road bridge onto I–70 overnight.

The melon hit a semi truck’s hood.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Department Deputies say the driver of the semi pulled over and as soon as he did, they say another melon was tossed.

That one hit a second semi truck’s windshield, shattering it.

The driver of the second semi had to swerve to avoid hitting the first.

Investigators say the suspects got away, but if they’re caught, they could be charged with anything from criminal mischief to a felony charge, depending on damages to the semis.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
