Expect a political announcement Wednesday from a local Republican.

A second Republican plans to enter Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District race.

Doug Thompson says he’ll formally announce his plans for the seat held by Democrat John Salazar.

The 62–year–old Grand Junction retiree says he was motivated to run by what he believes is excess spending by Congress and the Obama Administration.

Martin Beeson, a western slope District Attorney, announced in May that he would seek the GOP nomination for the seat held by Salazar since 2005.

Thompson won the GOP nomination for Mesa County Commissioner in 1990, but lost in the general election to Democrat Jim Spehar.
