Mesa County authorities stop a car on the Interstate and find drugs inside, but not meth or marijuana.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found 16 pounds of Phencyclidine, also known as PCP in the trunk of a Chicago couple’s rental car.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ashley Thomas and Steven McCullough, both of Chicago, were headed eastbound on I–70 in August when a Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed the car brake suddenly, so he followed them.
The deputy says the driver failed to stop for a stop sign at the Mack exit, then pulled off the side of the road and turned off the car’s lights.
After searching their vehicle, the deputy found a two gallon gas can filled with something over than gasoline.
CBI tested the substance and it came back as PCP.
They estimate the street value of the Drug is around $30,000.
The couple is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance.
