Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies say there is a manhunt underway for a male suspect but that nearby Bookcliff Middle School is remaining open.

Sgt. Chris Franz with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office says a 21-year-old woman sleeping in a home on Amy's Way in Grand Junction woke up to find a man standing over her bed with a weapon just before 3 a.m. Franz has asked 11 News not to identify the weapon.

He says the man entered the home through an open window. At least one police bloodhound was spotted along North Avenue helping in the search early Friday morning.

The suspect is described as a man of unknown race, wearing dark-colored clothing, a baseball hat and camouflage bandana over his face.

Franz says the victim is 'shaken up' and is with friends.

Police are reminding everyone to take steps to prevent criminals from entering through open windows by placing screws or bars in window tracks.
