The Topeka West High School band takes to the field at Hummer Park prior to the Chargers contest against Junction City Friday night.
A prestigious high school band award was given out locally over the weekend.
The Tiger Pride bands of Grand Junction High School were the only Western Slope high school bands to be honored with the Exemplary Band Award for the state of Colorado. Only 12 bands in the state are given this award each year.
The Tiger Pride marching band, jazz bands, symphonic and concert bands and the wind ensemble are under Issac Lavadie's direction.
Some middle school bands brought home the same award in their division. Those schools include: East Middle School, Grand Mesa Middle School, Redlands Middle School and Orchard Mesa Middle School.
