Playing on the playground, it's not just for kids anymore. One woman has turned the monkey bars into a total workout.
For Stacie Almaraz, being fit is something she strives for, but a hectic work schedule can sometimes get in her way. "It's helpful cause of my work schedule I can come and go, I can mix it up," says Almaraz. This is her first class with Playground Fitness, and it wasn't the usual playground fun. "It was one of the hardest workouts I've ever done in my life," says Almaraz.
Polly Perkins, founder of Playground Fitness, has been a personal trainer in a gym for many years, but lately she has been noticing a trend. "Over the past year I've noticed clients feeling flat and bored," says Perkins. So she decided to make a change to try to motivate her clients. "Watching people move their workouts outside their dispositions change," says Perkins. Which is exactly what Stacie Almaraz was looking for. "It's fun cause you're outside doing something different," says Almaraz. A playground at the park seems to be the perfect setting. "What better place to find the youthful energy that is in all of us," says Perkins.
Playground Fitness is not your usual gym membership. "It's really a personal training session so customer gets to pick the time and jump into a class," says Perkins. The classes are set up to be fun and functional, a way to pick you up if you are in a workout rut. "Workouts go quickly and functional, you're not chained to a machine," says Perkins. Just one of the many perks of this type of training class is its flexibility. "If someone forms a group of 4 or more, they get to pick the location," says Perkins. No matter the time or location, Polly is ready for any challenge. "If you're hardcore and want to come out with 1 or 2 inches of snow on the ground, I'll do it," says Perkins.
