Free Food Offered to Keep Drivers Awake

39 million Americans are expected to travel this Labor Day holiday. That's actually down more than 13 percent from this time last year. This Labor Day Weekend a local group is making sure those drivers are fueled up to make the drive.

On Highway 50 at the Escalante Canyon drivers will notice a unique sign, advertising free food and drink. Something drivers find hard to pass up. But this highway harbor is only here several times a year, on summer holidays. It's a rest stop for the weary travelers. And what better place to stop for a quick rest then Highway 50?

Oddfellows and Rebekahs of Cedaredge Colorado host the whole operation, with one goal in mind; recharge those drowsy drivers with homemade snacks and drinks. In fact the group runs a 24 hour shop for the whole weekend.

While some people feel inclined to leave a buck or two, the Oddfellows and Rebekahs say it’s not required. They just want to make sure everyone makes it to their destination for a happy holiday weekend.
