Police say a man caused at least $40,000 worth of damage to a local liquor store after his SUV plowed through the entrance.

The crashed happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night at Country Club Liquors on Horizon Drive in the Safeway shopping center.
When officers arrived on scene, the man and his vehicle were gone.

Officers say witnesses were able to give them a good description of the vehicle and one witness even followed the man after he fled.

Police eventually caught up with him in a field near the La Quinta Inn and arrested him.

They say he appeared to be drunk. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and charges of hit and run and criminal mischief.

His name has not been released.

The store was not open at the time of the crash and there are no injuries.
