Governor Bill Ritter has ordered flags to fly at half staff Friday in honor of Patriot Day.

Meanwhile, across the Grand Valley folks will mark the day with different events.

At 9:30 a.m. on the front lawn of the Old Mesa County Courthouse the Mesa State College Americorps Project will place American flags to represent and honor those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

They will also acknowledge our local first responders, law enforcement and firefighters.

The even will include speakers and music.

Following the presentation at 10 a.m., 70 doves will take to the skies.

They’ll be joining more than 4,000 released nationwide for the White Wings over America project.

At 6:30 p.m. the American Legion in Olathe is hosting a 9/11 Memorial event that will include representatives of the victims of the attacks.

And Friday night at Rock Jam starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be a tribute to our service men and women.
